Getting married abroad tipsWedding planningMore and more people are choosing to get married in exotic locations these days and what could be more romantic than exchanging vows by the side of the ocean on a white sandy beach. Many couples choose to go by themselves and then stay on for the honeymoon while others take their closest friends and family, often when having the wedding abroad it is a good idea to have a smaller reception for those relatives and friends which didn't attend the wedding. One important point to consider is that the marriage is recognised by law in your own country and if in doubt then advice should be sought from the home office before any plans are made. It is also wise to consult your Doctor regarding any vaccinations that you should have for the particular country you are going to and this should be done at least four months before the wedding date. Choosing a tour operator Most of the well known tour operators will offer special packages for weddings and honeymoons in many exotic places, they will be able to show you brochures specifically aimed at couples getting married and there will be representatives at the location of your choice who deal exclusively with wedding parties and who can make sure everything runs as smoothly as possible. The tour operator will organise every aspect of your wedding including the ceremony, the wedding cake, photographer and the reception relieving you of the hassle of having to deal with local officials in a foreign country. Legal requirements that need to be taken care of Make sure that you find out any legal requirements when booking such as the minimum stay in the country and any documents which you will need. If you are going with a tour operator then this will be taken care of for you, if you are booking yourself then information can be found at the embassy or consulate. Most countries will require evidence of the status of the bride and groom, for example divorce documents or death certificates of spouses from previous marriages. They will almost certainly require passports and the bride and grooms birth certificates too. A lot of countries will have a minimum requirement for living in the country before allowing a couple to marry, which is usually between one and seven days. Some countries also will require the couple to take a blood test before the wedding as does several states in the USA. Wedding outfits for overseas weddings Choosing outfits for the bride and groom for an overseas wedding will need some thought, the climate of the country will have to be taken into account and of course clothes which are easy to pack and which don't crease easily are essential. Consider a short dress for a beach wedding in a hot climate and if you really want a long one then try to choose one in a light cotton, lace or linen fabric. The groom could wear a light linen or cotton suit in a light colour. Try to avoid any tight fitting clothing as this could lead to overheating and fainting in hot climates.
