Choosing the catering for your weddingWedding catering tipsOnce you have chosen your wedding date and have booked it and the reception hall where you plan on holding the reception the next choice you have to make is the catering for the wedding. Most people have simple tastes so don't go overboard and have something too fancy, remember that if it is a sit down meal then you will have to cater to everybody's tastes not just your own. All in conclusive packages Most catering companies or venues will charge per person and will have a choice of set menus, but many caterers will vary their menus slightly to fit in with the theme or style of your wedding. A good choice is always meat, fish and vegetables for the main course with a variety of canapés for the guests to nibble on while waiting. If the venue has a restaurant then it is a good idea to go there for a meal and determine for yourself before you book the standard of the food and the service provided. Buffets There are three main types of buffets these are finger buffets, sit down buffets and fork buffets. A seated buffet is when guests are seated and are served one or more courses with the others being self service which are replenished by the catering staff as needed. Whichever types of buffet you choose always have more than one table to avoid long queues. If the buffet is for the evening then it is often wise to cater for one buffet meal for every two guests, this is usually more than enough and saves money and wasted food. DIY Catering If you are catering for yourself then make sure you plan the menus very carefully, keep the food simple and always try out anything new well beforehand. Try to prepare as much of the food as you possibly can the day before the wedding and if using frozen food make sure it is thoroughly defrosted before you need it. Don't forget to make sure that you have hired the crockery and enough of it and get everything to the venue in plenty of time to set it out. Wedding catering tips * Before you book try and sample the food for yourself. * Will there be any vegetarians attending the wedding and have you catered for them? * Do you need a children's menu? * Check to make sure the venue has their own equipment or do you have to hire it. * Will there be enough staff to cope with the amount of guests attending. * Does the quite you received include VAT. * Always get a receipt for your deposit. * Make sure the staff have the total number of guests in advance.
